Karl Machat has good ears. Correction: Karl has GREAT ears! He not only listens to what a recording artist lays down in the studio - but he listens to what the artist is striving for in a finished project. And he delivers.

So many of the so-called Mastering Houses (and this is true of most of the do-it-yourself mastering programs as well) out there take no advantage of the huge dynamic range (over 90db) this digital world permits. For some strange reason, heavy compression is the benchmark in most mastering houses today - resulting in a muddy, ear-fatiguing stew of recordings practically indistinguishable from each other.

Karl did a fantastic job on the Moonlight & Cider CD - and it really stands out.

I would not consider making the next album without his services.

I find Karl to be a very conscientious individual who pays close attention to details and is eager to learn new tricks. He is a very humble and likeable person. In my opinion he is the best mastering engineer I have ever worked with. He is not only interested in tweaking knobs and pressing buttons, he shows interest in the people he works with.
