Best Audio Editing Software?

Wavelab!!

Best Audio Editing Software?!

A bold claim, for sure, but after 6 years I've never had any major problems with Wavelab. It's served me and my clients very well, thank you!

As I've said Wavelab does it all, signal processing, CD creation, and what I'll look at here: editing.

I do my editing exclusively in what Wavelab terms “montage editing”. The Wavelab montage is an extremely flexible, non-destructive environment for creating and previewing any type of edit in real time.

“Virtual Waveforms” if such a term exists!

Wavelab offers seven types of curves for fade-ins and fade-outs. In addition you can create and store your own curve shapes as presets if you need it. There may have been times when I needed a specific fade shape, but it was always very particular to the file I was working on, so I've never really had the need to create any of my own presets.

With montage editing, you can place any number of 'tracks' (similar to a mixing environment) that you need for your project. You can also control the output volume of each track separately, as well as process them.

Into these tracks, you can place any number of 'clips'. Clips represent wave files on your hard drive. They can be the entire length of the file or just a section of it.

Clips can have volume changes drawn in as needed, and you can switch on an optional smoothing function. The overall output level of each individual clip can be controlled as well.

Clips can also be individually processed and played back in real time without effect on the actual original file itself. I've set up entire CD's this way: each clip representing an entire song, properly edited and appropriately processed. You can then write directly to CD; create a new single file; or new single files.

Did I say flexible? Did I mention best audio editing software?!!
